Which days count
A foreigner who holds a document of stay and files a renewal request for a title on the list of the teleservice files it between the 120th and the 60th day before the document expires. For a title that is not on that list, the request is filed within the last two months.1, 6
The service-public sheets of the cards say the same thing in months: on the internet, at the earliest 4 months and at the latest 2 months before the end of the document, whether it is a visa, a VLS-TS or a card.2
The two ways of counting do not always give the same day, so the calculator shows the narrower of the two. A request filed inside the dates it gives is inside both.1, 2
The rule of the regulation does not apply to a holder of the long-term resident-EU status.1
What filing inside the window changes
When a complete request was filed inside the deadlines and is still under examination on the day the document expires, the prefect must make an attestation of extension available through the teleservice. It is valid three months at most and is renewed until he decides. With the expired document, it proves the stay.3, 7
A request filed late carries a regularization visa fee of 180 euros on top of the stamp of the card, unless it is a case of force majeure or you hold a valid visa.2
The stamp and the six months
Since 1 May 2026 the stamp of a renewal is 250 euros, or 100 euros at the reduced rate. The amount is sent by SMS when the request is accepted.5
Six months after the day the document expires, with no request filed, the holder must again show the entry conditions, including the visa where one was needed for the first document.4
