What the file has to prove
France-Visas says a private stay of more than three months, with no professional activity, needs a long-stay visitor visa issued as a VLS-TS.1
For that visa you must prove information about your socio-economic situation, your resources, your accommodation and your medical cover in France. Accommodation is one of four proofs, not a stand-alone file.1
The exact supporting documents are indicated in the France-Visas visa wizard and differ with your country of residence and your nationality. There is no single national list, which is why the checker works from housing situations and why the wizard has the last word on your file.1
Service-Public publishes a model attestation d'hébergement, a letter for anyone who must prove where they live. The page links it to a residence permit application, a registration certificate for a vehicle and a driving licence application. It does not name the visa file among them.2
