About Vincent

Vincent Berthier De Bortoli is the founder of VBDB Tax Attorney, an independent law practice in Chambéry, in the French Alps, that works almost exclusively on international taxation. A bilingual French–English avocat, he holds the French certificate of specialisation in tax and customs law.

His practice centres on private clients whose lives and assets cross borders: tax residency and the application of tax treaties, the taxation of trusts and comparable entities, international estate planning and inheritance tax, and French tax compliance, reporting and disputes. He also advises artists and athletes, and handles corporate tax matters.

Born and raised in Haute-Savoie, he was sworn in before the Chambéry Court of Appeal in December 2016. He began his career with two collaborations focused on international personal taxation in a cross-border context. A first 14-month stint with partner firms in Amsterdam and Dublin gave him an insider's view of other tax systems; during his second collaboration he applied Swiss and US tax in practice, which allows him to approach international tax questions across several systems at once. He set up his own practice in 2023.

He is a full member of STEP, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and holds the TEP designation, giving him particular expertise in trusts and comparable entities.

He studied law at the Université de Savoie in Chambéry, then completed a master's degree at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. His studies culminated in a Master II in Corporate Law and Taxation (GEFIRE) and a university diploma in advanced taxation from the University of Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand.
